You are here: improvement

A continual improvement process, also often called a continuous improvement process (abbreviated as CIP or CI), is an ongoing effort to improve products, services, or processes. These efforts can seek "incremental" improvements over time or "breakthrough" improvement all at once. Delivery (customer valued) processes are constantly evaluated and improved in the light of their efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility.

The fact that it can be called a management process does not mean that it needs to be executed by 'management'; but rather merely that it makes decisions about the implementation of the improvement process and the design of the improvement process itself.

Process improvement works best when it is aligned continuously with the company's strategic aims/goals. We at Blendcor consistently focus on projects that can save our organisation millions and enhance productivity and safety immeasurably, as well as notably grow our shareholders bottom line, in order to support our vision of being the greatest LOBP (Lubricants Oil Blending plant) in Europe and Africa.

We do this by being an active participant and a catalyst in continual improvement and corrective action items. We monitor corrective actions, aiming to always correct the root cause(s) and not just the symptoms by ensuring that proper problem solving techniques are used.

The problem solving methodologies we use are but not limited to the following

5Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, Kaizen events etc

Other CI tools we use to:

- Identify value and the value stream are : Visual Management, Daily huddles, Value stream Maps,
- Eliminate waste to establish flow and pull are: 5S methodology, Cellular Flow, Gold standards and Quality in station
- Sustain and continually improve are: SOP (standard Operating Procedure) or WI (Work Instruction) and Standard Work.

The CI department is instrumental in ensuring the accomplishment of the Blendcorís vision by ....

- Translating the GREAT LOBP vision into actionable short, medium and long term Drive Continuous Improvements to quantitatively and qualitatively improve costs, quality and service
- Carrying out advanced data collection and analysis for process mapping.
- Establishing and managing right first time performance and incorporate this philosophy in the continuous Improvement teams
- Building Continuous Improvement skills within Blendcor by developing and supporting team members and site team leaders in adopting CI ways of working.
- Coaching/ Mentoring site improvement champions during their individual improvement projects by providing assistance in selecting and application of different CI methods and tools.
- Developing and delivering fit-for-purpose training for various levels of the organisation on specific CI/Lean methods and tools (e.g. DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, Standard Work, 5Why, Waste elimination etc.).

Our CI approach as Blendcor is to create capacity of coaching the teams by empowering team leaders to be CI expects in their own areas.
